We're bracing for 3-5 inches of snow in Southern IL today. Some in the Buffalo, NY area would love to have just 3-5 inches after 10+ feet have fallen in as many days!
In any case, this morning we woke to promises of rain changing to sleet, then snow by mid-morning. It's 10 a.m. right now and as I look out the window, it's jsut starting to change over. For once the weather men are right!
Schools on the St. Louis side of the river closed in anticipation of the snow coming. Schools in the Metro East did not. As it stands, we've only missed one day to snow so far this year. If we get it good today, we may be out tomorrow. My kids are calling for enough snow to close schools. Time will tell.
In any case, school is rarely closed in this part of the state due to weather. The pattern seems to be that North and West of St. Louis consisently gets more severe weather than we do. That has been the case so far this winter, except for the ice storm that glazed trees in December with 1/2" of ice.
Southern IL is certainly a 4-season climate, but the winters are generally pretty painless. We have times where it can be rainy for days on end, but generally they can be followed by days of sun and cool or cold temperatures. If you're moving here and love 4 seasons, but don't LOVE Winter, this is the place for you!
